first (and only) edition of the first english travel book designed for children , dedicated "To Prince William Henry, the least Son of His Royal Highness Frederick, Prince of Wales". It contains a wealth of information on 18th century England, made more palatable for youth by the introduction of a fictional author. It precedes similar works such as John Newbery's Geography (1748) and Museum for Young Gentlemen and Ladies (1750). Mary Cooper is best-known as the publisher of the earliest surviving collection of nursery rhymes: Tommy Thumb's Pretty Song Book (1744).
