Publisher's green cloth stamped and lettered on upper cover and spine in color, housed in lettered clamshell case. Condition: spine and covers rubbed. A clean and tight copy.
first edition in primary binding with the publisher’s name at the foot of the spine in upper and lowercase letters; ‘toto on’ in line four of p. 34 and the numeral on p. 121 in perfect type; numeral and caption present on p. 129; pp. 33-64 printed on pale lavendar stock; and pp. 113-128 on pale blue stock. In search of novelty in the presentation of the popular Oz Books, Reilly & Britton printed this story on various stocks of color paper to produce a rainbow effect as the child traveled along the Road to Oz. By 1916, it was reprinted on white stock only. Although there were no color plates in the book, Neill produced one of his most beautiful suites of pen-and-ink drawings for this Oz story.
