An important satirist, critic, and musician, Anthony Burgess is best remembered for his 1962 dystopian novel, A Clockwork Orange.
An ardent defender of her husband's writing, Liana famously drove throughout Europe while Anthony worked in an attempt to avoid the high taxes imposed on him in England. During a four-year lecture tour of the American universities, Liana depicted herself in her self-portrait as the driver of a tour van. (4)
